Conference Themes

The conference focus will be on the following four major themes:

Values and the Socialisation of Children

Research in this stream will focus on the development of values and/or how values relate to social, academic and/or health issues in childhood and adolescence. Other topics of interest include how individual difference characteristics and elements of the developmental environment influence these issues.

Values and Consumer Behaviour

Research in this stream will focus on how values relate to consumer decision making and consumer engagement with brands across different age and life-stages. Other topics of interest include how brands and other entities are perceived by consumers and how individual difference characteristic, such as materialism and frugality, impact consumer decision making.

Values and Global Public Opinion

Research in this stream will focus on how values relate a wide range of beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that are relevant to widespread public opinion. Some of the topics of interest include, how values relate to public opinion about government and the media, immigration and migration, acceptance of diversity and equality, environmental conservation, ageism, and a wide range of health issues. We encourage papers that utilise social survey data, including the Australian Values Survey, HILDA and the European Social Survey.

Values and Giving

Research in this stream will focus on how values relate to giving to specific causes (e.g., international aid, religious organisations, education, environmental and animal-welfare causes) and in different forms (e.g., money, time and talent). Other topics of interest include differences between groups, including age and life-stage.
